Apple Bread

shortening
eggs
vanilla
flour
baking powder
baking soda
salt
chopped, pared apples (about 4 medium apples)
chopped nuts
Topping:
1 tsp
1/4 tsp
sugar
ground cinnamon
Procedure:
 
1.  Preheat oven to 350ºF.
2.  Grease and flour a loaf pan (9" x 5" x 3")
3.  Cream together the sugar, shortening, eggs and vanilla.
4.  Sift the flour, baking soda and powder together.
5.  Stir into creamed mixture and mix thoroughly.
6.  Stir in the apples and chopped nuts.
7.  Pour batter into pan and sprinkle with topping.
8.  Bake for 50 to 60 minutes.
9.  Remove immediately from pan and cool.
